What is service design and why is it so damn important to know about it?
Learn how the design of services is shaping the future of your economy.
Uber, the world’s largest taxi business, owns no cars.
Facebook, the world’s most popular media company, creates no content.
AirBnB, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no hotel rooms.
Think about that for a moment. That’s three of the world’s largest companies operating hugely successful businesses without having anything themselves to sell.
How can that be?
The answer is they are all examples of well designed services that give their users such great experiences that they keep coming back for more.
Not only that but they’re also upsetting a lot of traditional businesses in the process. In a recent study by Microsoft, one thousand senior leaders were asked how long their current business model has left to run.
Their answer? Less than five years.
Already, services account for 80% of the UK economy, and around 50% for many developing nations. And it's only heading in one direction.
So how do you get in on a piece of the action and set yourself up to be the next billion dollar internet unicorn? The answer is…
By becoming a better service designer.
Service design is all about designing services with the customer at the centre, and creating end-to-end experiences that leave the customer feeling delighted and wanting more.
We believe this is such a useful thing to know about we’ve teamed up with one of the world’s experts, Thomas Cornwall, to create a short course that will teach you all about it. Thomas has helped brands like Samsung, Amazon, BT and even the UK government create transform their service experiences.
