Ad Highlights Super Bowl 2023

Ad Highlights Super Bowl 2023

It’s that time of year again when big brands battle it out to see who can attract the most buzz around the Super Bowl.

Why is this such a big thing? Well, over 100 million people watch it, that’s about 90% of all Americans using a television during the event, and those people come at a premium.

This year costs about $7 - $8 million for a 30sec slot, and that’s before you’ve even made the ad!

I’ve been writing about the best Super Bowl ads for over 10 years now, and whilst they are not necessarily getting better (mostly, I miss the lack of original humour), they are 100% getting bigger!

This year you can see ads featuring Willie Nelson, Martha Stewart, Diddy, Kevin Bacon, Kaley Cuoco, Melissa McCarthy and even John Travolta butchering any fond memories you may have of Grease….basically, all the celebrities are here bigger and stronger than ever before, Snoop is even in two of them.

Anyway, without any further ado, below are my highlights from this year’s Super Bowl.

  • Amazon - Saving Sawyer
Why I like it: Simple, sweet, and fun, with a good twist at the end + shows the product.

Aviation Gin - #2GinuteWarning
Why I like it: Ryan Reynolds + humour 👌

Google - #FixedOnPixel
Why I like it: Fun humour and clearly shows a brilliant product benefit in a relatable and enjoyable way.

Squarespace - The Singularity
Why I like it: Odd but not too odd + Adam Driver plays this well + shows the product in a memorable way

Pop Corners - Breaking Bad
Why I like it: Two beloved characters back again in a fun lighthearted way with a very clear link to the uniqueness of the product

Sam Adams - Your Cousins Brighter Boston
Why I like it: A beer ad that’s funny and links back to the brand clearly in an enjoyable self-deprecating way (I want to start a gofundme page to try to get more beer brands marketers to realise it’s good to use humour again)

Doritos - Jack’s New Angle
Why I like it: Even if you don’t know Jack Harlow, you’ll still be able to get this, it’s memorable and links nicely to the product.

Mint Mobile - Save a ton of cents
Why I like it: Ryan Reynolds + humour…again 👌

Disney - Disney 100
Why I like it:
This really probably should not be on my list, but I’m a sucker for anything Disney having grown up with their films and then also having worked in the storytelling world for so long myself now + love Walt’s message.
