Invisible to Invaluable - Podcast with the authors Jane Evans and Carol Russell

Unleashing the power of midlife women - that’s the subtitle of Invisible to Invaluable by Jane Evans and Carol Russell.

Midlife females that the title refers to are those born between 1950 and 1975.

This group of women are breaking new ground, as they are the first UK generation with a long enough life expectancy and social/legal status to have the chance of working (en masse) after the age of 45.

Through meticulous research and eye-opening historical facts, Jane and Carol highlight the enormously disadvantaged circumstances that they and their contemporaries have suffered… and continue to do so.

But there is hope.

The book is filled with positive stories of overcoming the odds, pioneering through steadfast values and suggestions of real world actions that can be taken to redress the imbalance.

If this feels to you like it’s all just feminism and isn’t your cup of tea, then you should read this book - it’s an extremely interesting read covering most aspects of life and not just about feminism.

Secondly, even though it does cover serious subject matter, the banter between Jane and Carol (especially in the audiobook version) makes this anything but a drudge through heavy topics - the book reads wonderfully playfully, light and positive.

Jane Evans and Carol Russell - Podcast on Invisible to Invaluable

In this podcast Jane and Carol discuss their amazing friendship, their inspiration for writing the book, and special moments from their writing.

Most of all though, you can feel both authors’ passion and conviction, which also imbues every sentence of Invisible to Invaluable.

A 30-minute podcast could never do justice to a whole book, but we’d love you to enjoy hearing Jane and Carol touch on some moments, such as:

How the history of America and Britain is linked to the role of African-descendant women

How one question you can ask directly to brands can create a positive change for midlife women

How the incredible importance of visible role models is life-changing for future generations

Just as a little teaser, do you know what incredibly important socio-political-legal thing happened in the same month that Bohemian Rhapsody went to number 1 for the first time?

It’s really not that long ago, but it was a landmark day for women’s rights.

Incidentally, I first learnt about this fantastic read via a tweet from Vikki Ross, who is quoted in the book due to her work with Anita Roddick and The Body Shop.

Both Vikki and Jane, as leading female creatives in the advertising industry, are two of the many thought leaders giving insights on video in our new Copywriting Course.
