Is it worth it?
Time is your most valuable asset.
Unlike money, you can’t make more of it.
Even the world’s richest man Jeff Bezos has the same amount of hours in a day as you do.
Whilst there’s no doubt that being open to new experiences is a positive thing, it’s good to be aware of how you spend your time.
Where possible, you should be doing more of the things that contribute positively to your personal growth and less of the things that don’t.
In Ryan Holiday’s new book Stillness Is the Key, there is a section that highlights the importance of this.
The author shares the following questions that are helpful when deciding whether to commit time to something:
What is it?
Why does it matter?
Do I need it?
Do I want it?
What are the hidden costs?
Will I look back from the distant future and be glad I did it?
Too often modern life is about being busy which distracts us from taking the time to reflect on what’s truly important.
As Holiday himself so eloquently puts, “When we know what to say no to, we can say yes to the things that matter.”
