Why is Pinot Noir known as the 'heartbreak grape'?

What did the grape say when it's heart was crushed?  Nothing, it just let out a little wine.

Breaking up with someone is never easy.

One way to lessen the blow is to do it over a glass of wine.

Preferably a Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir is the tenth most planted grape in the world and makes a wonderfully light red that even pairs well with fish.

It also has a particular chemical in it which helps to lessen emotional pain.

Just kidding.

It gets its nickname from the fact that it has a very thin skin that easily breaks making it susceptible to disease and genetic mutation.

Its fragility makes it a fickle grape to work with posing a challenge to any keen winemaker.
