Ali Rez's Top 10 Ads of All Time
Ali Rez is the Chief Creative Officer of Impact BBDO and a serial award winner.
His Top 10 ads of all time have stretched to XI. Because, in keeping with the sporting nature of this edition, he is a cricket lover.
1. Agency: DDB, New York Client: Volkswagen Title: “Snow Plough”
What better opener than this obvious eternal ad, demonstrating the power of insight and a simple question we have always asked but never asked?
2. Agency: Wieden+Kennedy, Portland Client: Nike Title: “Michael Jordan 1, Isaac Newton 0”
Is there a better headline than this? Uh, is there a better basketball player than Michael Jordan? Exactly.
3. Agency: Droga 5, New York Client: Ecko Title: “Air Force One Tag”
Going viral online before going viral online was a thing. Possibly as big as Orson Wells convincing everybody that an alien invasion was happening.
4. Agencies: Host/Havas, Sydney Client: Palau Legacy Project Title: “Palau Pledge”
I would’ve loved to be in that meeting where somebody took a deep puff and said, “Why don’t we put our message on the passport page itself?” Genius is all about finding new places.
5. Agency: Wells Rich Greene Client: Braniff Title: “End Of The Plain Plane”
Don’t just advertise the product; completely redesign the product. And redesign it in such a way that it changes the industry itself – years before the colourful iMacs was the colourful aeroplane.

6. Agency: Saatchi & Saatchi, London Client: Silk Cut Title: “Slash”
Paul Arden’s genius needs no words.
7. Agency: Goodby Silverstein, San Francisco Client: California Milk Processor Board Title: “Got Milk? – Aaron Burr”
A great strategy will lead to great creativity, one that starts a completely new conversation.
8. Agency: Dentsu Webchutney Bangalore Client: VICE Title: “The Unfiltered History Tour”
What a proper tour of any museum containing stolen goods should be.
9. Agency: DDB Client: Budweiser Title: “Whassup”
If your campaign changes the way people speak, then it’s a good campaign. If it makes them speak ridiculously, then it’s a great campaign.
10. Agency: TBWA Hakuhodo, Japan Client: adidas Title: “Vertical Football”
adidas loves to say that the impossible is nothing. And then they prove it by making a billboard on which people play football vertically. It's so cheeky.
11. Agency: Impact BBDO Client: AnNahar Newspaper, Lebanon Title: “The Elections Edition”
I want to add one of my own here because why shouldn’t we love our own work?
